So here we are. After 2 years of development and testing across hundreds of man-nights across the China Karakoram, Kunlun, Tibet, Japan and the Alps, the Samaya Assaut XP tents are being made available beyond our teams.
In Spring 2026 a limited number of Assaut XPs will be released, putting what we will confidently call the finest expedition tents ever made into general circulation. By any metric you like, these tents are best in class by a long way, the result of the collaboration between Samaya’s uncontested innovation, materials and production, and FTREs mondo whatthefuck demands.
We never intended these tents for general release so made zero compromises towards it. Samaya not only let us run riot with designs and concepts but threw their own fuel on the fire with innovations and technical prowess, making this the sort of collaborative project rarely seen in these times of commercial containment. Where most high altitude equipment is made for industrial use, these tents represent the shadowy corner of the sport still dedicated to the demands of the extreme edge.
The Assaut XP tents are designed for extended living on the narrow ledges and under the crazy conditions of unsupported expeditions. They are a ‘one tent’ solution that functions as a basecamp tent as well as for high camps in places like the Karakoram, and combine all sorts of functional elements you will not see in other tents.
Composed of nearly 100% Dyneema and carbon fibre the Assaut XPs weigh less than nearly every other alpine tent on the market, despite having the additional poles and integrated vestibule that means 30% more space and exponentially more strength. They are made to put up and take down in high winds, in difficult places and with big gloves on, and prioritize livability above even their extraordinarily low weight.

Prices are in line with Samaya’s Ultra range and reflect the materials, workmanship and specialized production, so if you are expecting anything like the mass produced stuff usually seen being shredded on mountains then save yourself the effort.
If on the other hand you want a tent that will last hundreds of days of extreme use and will make the difference on the highest and remotest objectives on Earth then get yourself on the list. These tents change the way mountains can be climbed.
